Lockdown with Boris

March 2020 will always be remembered… the year everything stopped. People told to stay at home, businesses forced to work from home, and yes… weddings stopped too. A worldwide cease on daily lives… sounds like the plot to a disaster movie. For Dewi and Lorna, this meant postponing their big day. Something they had been planning for some time with friends, family, and plenty of alcohol.

Boris didn’t help things either. When things were starting up again, certain businesses were allowed to reopen with new rules and guidelines in place, but weddings were stripped of their shared joy amongst all the guests you wanted. I remember one wedding I went to had the band perform inside to an empty room to a camera and microphone streaming to TVs outside the venue, where the guests stood or danced watching the band. It was an odd time.

The government were changing things and work was picking up once again. One change put in place was allowing 2 households to meet up outside whilst maintaining social distancing. The perfect opportunity to meet up with Dewi and Lorna and do a pre wedding video and photo shoot in the grounds of the Swettenham Arms – The Lovell Quinta Arboretum.

What was also quite nice about the shoot was that they had rescheduled a stripped-down wedding for the week after. Fantastic! The shoot went ahead as planned… which basically means, they had a lovely walk in the Autumn sun, and I ran around chasing them, getting footage and snapping away for the perfect shots. The shoot was done and all that had to happen was for Boris not to announce any changes to current plans.

Lockdown 2 was announced that night, scheduled to begin a week later. Quick thinking and plans were made, and they managed to get the wedding booked in within the week. However, as I mentioned, work was picking up. This meant I was filming elsewhere and couldn’t film the actual wedding day. Luckily the industry is full of like-minded talented individuals… One of those is Andy Stelmach – my go to guy.

All in all, with the choices Dewi and Lorna were forced to make, their wedding day was beautiful. Having known them apart and then together. Their wedding was a little slice of them, shared with their family and friends both in person and on zoom.

Your wedding won’t always go to plan, but it’s stories like these that show how much weddings mean to people and sometimes the time/location and activities don’t always matter. If you’re able to marry the person you love… and perhaps eat some delicious food.
